Are you tired of staring at your blank walls? Are you nostalgic for summer? We are! So why not bring summer and the sea indoors with a truly unique and inspiring piece of art from our latest young talent in the Deep South.
Afrillustrations (currently a solo “side-hustle” by Alexandra Rother) shares her love for the ocean and summer by providing artworks that emit tranquillity and a sense of holiday. Combining inspiration and art and her appreciation for the ocean and our beautiful beaches, Alix (her parents thought the ‘i’ looked more feminine than the ‘e’ ) brings a unique view to her audience. Using drone footage, Alix creates aerial paintings and seascape art that has locals and international buyers taking note.
Nurturing my passion
Doodling is Art
“I’ve always been drawn to creating art and did so throughout my schooling years.” states Alix, “After several years of focusing on studies & work, I finally picked up a pen and got back into fine art illustrations and painting.”
Having already made her mark on a few of Dave Stubbs Surfboard Designs, Alix is focusing on nurturing her passion for art by painting what she feels like, when she feels like it. Being cautious to avoid turning her art into work, Alix takes a more chilled approach to Afrillustrations and the production line.
Usually paired with some good music & even better company, she mostly paints during odd evenings and can often be found procrastinating over canvases on weekends.
“I would love to take on Afrillustrations full time and open a studio within walking distance from some tranquil beach. I’m also excited to keep my art growing enough to be able to start approaching exhibitions and galleries.”
From humble beginnings selling art to close friends and family to selling paintings internationally, Alix is obviously doing something right. With paintings in the UK, Norway, New Zealand and Australia, she has managed to consistently sell numerous art pieces each month so that she can cover her rent.
Anyone looking to decorate their space or provide friends & family with a unique and original artwork as a gift would be able to find something from her gallery of work.
“I have a large variety of artworks on different scales and have priced these to be as affordable as possible for all audiences,” mentions Alix, “I also only frame works on request and have partnered with a local framer who provides this service.”
We all love summer and since we live in the Deep South, we also love the sea. So what better way to celebrate it with a stunning piece of art?
It’s a Deep South Vibe!
